Text:

Resolution Congratulating Judge Donoghue on her Election as President of the International Court of Justice

Whereas Her Excellency Judge Joan E. Donoghue has had a distinguished record of service and leadership at the International Court of Justice; and

Whereas the work of the Court is critically important to the maintenance of international peace and security; and

Whereas the American Branch of the International Law Association is dedicated to the study, clarification, and development of international law and the advancement of peace, equity, and justice worldwide; and

Whereas the Board applauds Judge Donoghue’s steadfast dedication to “strengthen and promote the various means for settling disputes peacefully” and commitment to “actively seek differing perspectives and promote open exchanges of ideas, especially with those whose views differ from our own;”

Now be it therefore resolved that the Board of Directors of the American Branch of the International Law Association congratulates Judge Joan E. Donoghue on her election as President of the International Court of Justice and wishes her the best in her new position.
