The ABILA International Intellectual Property Law Committee, co-chaired by Sean Flynn and Peter K. Yu, co-sponsored a webinar on The Impact of a TRIPS COVID Waiver on Trade and Investment Agreements on February 4, 2022 with American University Washington College of Law’s Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP).

The event featured a presentation of a report written by Federica Paddeu and Henning Grosse Ruse-Khan, followed by a roundtable discussion with international law experts, including Daniel Uribe, Lead Program Officer, South Centre; Professor Rochelle Dreyfuss, Pauline Newman Professor of Law, NYU School of Law; Professor Holger Hestermeyer, Professor of International and EU Law at King’s College London; Professor Peter K. Yu, Regents Professor of Law and Communication and Director, Center for Law and Intellectual Property, Texas A&M University School of Law, and Co-Chair, ABILA’s International Intellectual Property Law Committee; and Nirmalya Syam, Senior Program Officer, South Centre.

The Committee on International Intellectual Property supports member-initiated projects that advance the public interest in international intellectual property law. The Committee has sponsored letters, statements, reports, position papers, research and public events on current issues in international intellectual property law. Its members have worked on submissions and statements in organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization, the World Trade Organization and the Office of the United States Trade Representative. The Committee meets annually at ABILA’s International Law Weekend. The Committee’s most recent work has involved exploring the intersection of copyright and artificial intelligence at WIPO and sponsoring forums and endorsing policy statements on international. Like all ABILA committees, members include academics, practitioners, NGO representatives, and students who work together on the Committee’s projects.
